DENISE WILSON
LCSW
Just a little about me. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Southeast Missouri State University. My first “grown up job” was as a Probation Officer in a Drug Court program. I worked there for 13 1/2 years. I learned a lot about the population(adults) we served as well as a lot about myself in that time. I think the biggest thing I learned about myself is my passion for helping people. So many people struggle, including myself, with so many things and I want to be a help agent for them and for change. That lead me to pursue a Master in Social Work degree. I went to Saint Louis University and graduated in 2014. After graduating, I found a wonderful job working in child psychiatry as a Clinical Coordinator and Trauma Therapist. I have received training in a number to trauma modalities along with Parent-Child Interaction Therapy(PCIT).
With my experience working in the behavioral health and criminal justice systems for over 20 years in a variety of areas including juveniles, families, addiction, and adults, my practical knowledge of serving children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced trauma, the foster care system, substance abuse along with conducting assessments, and utilizing community resources has given me a skill set that allows me to be the therapist I am today. My experience has given me the opportunity to work with diverse populations. My experience has also provided me the ability to work independently as well as work as a member of a team. I love learning so I continue to seek knowledge to help myself grow; not only for myself but for those I seek to help.
I believe in meeting people where they are and treating everyone with the utmost respect, sensitivity, care and compassion. My style combines cognitive-behavioral therapy, utilizing a strength based, and solution focused approach.
